Why a Bypass Filter is needed
60% of engine wear is caused by particles between 5-20 microns and most OEM full-flow filters perform efficiently at 15-40 microns. Without a puraDYN bypass oil filter, increased engine wear can occur when particulate matter under 15-40 microns is not trapped by the full flow filter. Download our brochure here.
New engines are being designed to meet strict emission regulations, which have the unintended consequence of generating greater amounts of soot in the oil. This soot, along with other solid contaminants including fuel and water, cannot be effectively and completely removed by full-flow filters alone. Without a bypass filter, oil becomes dirty much faster – accelerating engine wear and requiring it to be changed more frequently.
- The puraDYN bypass oil filtration system does not affect the engine’s oil flow or pressure.
- The puraDYN System does not replace the conventional full-flow filter – it works in conjunction with it to enhance micro-fine filtration
The Filtering Process
The puraDYN unit is installed downstream of the existing full-flow filter. Contaminated oil, with abrasive particles, soot, liquids and oxidation by-products such as gum and/or varnish, enter the unit through a small metering jet under pressure supplied by the engine’s pump. The metering jet prevents any drop in oil pressure and slows the oil down to a low, measured flow rate of six to eight gallons per hour.
Oil passes through the replaceable filter element where the TBN additives are maintained by the patented time-release additive package, while the long strand cotton fibers trap solid particles down to below one micron and neutralize acid and remove sulfur compounds. In addition, puraDYN replacement filter elements with optional process for chemical grafting, CGP®, can double the life of the replaceable filter element. In the TF and PFT product lines, the filtered oil then enters the Puradyn heated evaporation chamber where lighter fuel fractions, engine coolant, and water are evaporated and immediately vented. However, in the MTS product, Puradyn’s newest generation of bypass filter series, the use of a special filter element is employed for water removal. The Polydry®filter, designed specifically to work with the MTS series, removes the water contamination that occurs naturally through the combustion process, whether dissolved into the oil, emulsified, or free-standing.
The puraDYN Bypass Filter System works with lubrication, hydraulic, and gear box oils below 50 weight for all internal combustion engines and equipment regardless of fuels used to power the engines. Give us a call and Let’s Talk Dirty – Puradyn technology will help keep your engine clean, extend oil drains and keep you working at peak performance.
